Next Generation

We are a culture more open than ever, but we never share.  We hide behind newspapers and talk shows.  We only answer questions, we have stopped having conversations, now we have interrogations.  We are pushed into corners and talked about behind our backs.  We know more about others than ever but we never talk to them directly.
“You’ve lost weight.”  Why don’t you tell me when I’ve gained it, to my face.
We are more afraid of confrontation than ever.  We are all talk.  Over the phone, over the Internet.  We fight behind numbers and screen names.  There are no gentlemen left.  No pure  women.  No one fights for honor anymore.  There are no fair fights.  There is only surprise and outnumbering.  We don’t fight to save dignity, we fight for reputation.  The alpha male is not the strongest or smartest, it is now the richest.  No one gets to know someone long enough to see inner beauty.  We are judged on sight.  We are a generation of face lifts and hair plugs.  We live on surgery and perfection.  Our war is a mistake.  Our salvation won’t come.  Our lives are centered on stories.  We follow the lives of fake people for meaning.  We want to be like our heroes, our idols, but we will always fall short.  We don’t believe what we hear, we can’t believe what we see.  We complain about life being too short but we don’t do anything with the time.  Full lives are mourned just as much as barely lived ones.  We say we have faith in God but we look both ways before crossing the street.  More people read entertainment magazines then the Bible.  Nothing is enough.  We want to know about the past but we would rather read books than talk to those who lived through it.  We wish for more time just so we can waste it.  We want to fall in love but we ignore the people around us.  We don’t listen long enough to know someone.  We don’t listen at all.  We are all just waiting for our turn to speak.

Our culture peaked decades ago, we are just the downfall.  And we prove it everyday.
